Why Aging in Place?
The world is facing a global phenomen of people living longer than ever before.  Currently the average age is 85.  The "Baby Boomer" generation, one of the largest age segements, is redefining aging Boomers are those men and women born between 1946 and 1964.  Boomers have been setting the social tone in America for the last half century. Older Americans today are busy roller blading or surfing the internet and over 89% desire to age in place. 

A well designed environment can: 

• improved health in later life
• gives the option of remaining at home for rest of life 
• promotes safety for successful aging
• reduces risk of falls
  • leading cause of injury and death in the home

 Two choices:

1. Proactive: with Universal design which is seamlessly part of a living environment that allows friends, relatives to easily visit and improves successful aging.
2. Reactive: with Gerontological design which is an after the fact design and can be more institutionalized when implemented by health care workers.
